Krannert Drawing Room
The Krannert School of Management is a staple of Purdue University, and has been for 58 years. However, their drawing room, a primary event space for the school and the first greeting room for visitors, is outdated in its design and underused.

To remodel this key common space, we drew inspiration from the concept of "growth." Natural forms, geometries, and materials are employed, as well as strong vertical dimensions, to encourage the personal growth of every user of the Krannert drawing room.

Organic shapes and materials dominate the flooring, aided by a simple and direct circulation plan, both acting as conduits for growth and creativity. Importance is given to a variety of furniture arrangements and types, so that anyone can use the space, whether they are in a group or on their own. The central furniture groups (on both the south and north portions of the drawing room) are heavily community-based, while the edges of the room allow for individual, private seating.

The first feature that visitors see in this space are the massive dark wood columns, each containing a back-lit glass pattern of a tree, pushing forth the theme of growth. Guests are greeted by comfortable lounge furniture, allowing them to wait or rest comfortably. Students and staff may venture further into the room, gazing upon the glass panels recognizing Krannert honorees, and finding somewhere to sit among the myriad of seating choices.

These booths provide the most intimate option for small group seating, made even more private by the hanging pendant lamps above.
