Design Firm
It is the nature of the interior designer to visualize ideal spaces. Wouldn't it be natural, then, for them to visualize their future workplace? This project allowed us to channel our personalities into a personalized design firm that could house our post-grad interiors practice.

Set in the city of Nashville, Tennessee, the theme behind this project is RHYTHM, inspired by the sights and sounds of the Music City. By emphasizing rising and falling forms, repetition, and an open concept environment, this design firm emulates both the rigid rhythmic cadence and the soft flow of music. It is a structured but liberating space, allowing creativity to flow and helping the resident designers think outside the box.

The first floor houses all of the communal portions of this design firm, making a client's first impression one of community, and displaying the individuals behind the designs. The comfortable lounge provides both group and single-seat furniture arrangements, and sits directly across from a glass-walled conference room, giving a distinct impression of honesty and transparency. The main stairway allows easy access for designers to meet their guests in the lobby or to venture into the break room.

The second floor serves the opposite function of the first floor, playing host to the designer workstations and private offices. However, the open concept nature of the plan -- and glass walls with visual access to the lobby -- leave nothing hidden. Guests are welcome to employ the informal meeting spot, communal table, and guest chairs at every desk to meet with their design partners. The stairway also provides immediate access to the executive offices for important meetings.

As coffee is an essential inclusion for any office, this charming under-stair coffee bar provides employees with the necessary resources for a caffeine break.
